When I left you

The day I forgave you, your abuse of me

That moment when I said, "I love you still"

The very second I saw through you

Into peacefulness

That's when I left you and became free

It wasn't when you were hitting me

Nor when you woke me in the night

Not when you broke the kitchen table

Or even when you infringed upon my rights

It was after.

When you cried and said you'd change

And I knew you couldn't even if you tried

I saw you and saw through you

Into peacefulness

That's when I left you and became free
