Survivor Strong
I am hopeful that this will help people heal. I am hopeful that this book will also make people see all the different forms of abuse, from multiple peoples in our lives. I know it was a huge deal when I came forward with my story, but my story is not the only one that matters. My story is just one in a billion, and the others need to be told and heard as well. I am hopeful that this book will open up more eyes, and have more voices start to speak out. I am hopeful that more of us can continue to raise awareness and break the stigma of domestic violence that is embedded so deeply into every community, no matter how much a community wants to turn a blind eye and pretend it doesn’t. When domestic violence happens, it is not just one person’s “problem,” it is a society and community “problem” that needs to be handled as a whole and not just swept under the rug.
Thank you so much for everyone’s support. This is just the beginning. I am not going anywhere, and more survivors/warriors are going to start speaking out. This is going to be a movement that people cannot hide from any longer. I did not change anyone’s stories that were sent to me for this collaboration because I wanted everyone’s voices to be heard as their own, not with mine speaking over it.
Thank you for reading this and I hope you get some insight into how much this affects so many people and in so many different ways. These pages are full of 34 different stories of domestic violence warriors and what they endured, said in their voice, for you to hear. Be kind.
